Akothee speaks about GenZs-“GenZs are children brought up in broken relationships and absentee parents, thats why they are emotionless, they burst out, they are unaccountable and they don’t care, because nobody cared for them”

Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Akothee has once again ignited a heated online debate after sharing her unfiltered thoughts on Generation Z, offering a controversial take on their upbringing and behavior.

In a strongly worded statement, the outspoken artist claimed that many Gen Zs are products of broken homes and absentee parenting—an environment she believes has significantly shaped their emotional responses and outlook on life.

According to Akothee, this background has contributed to what she describes as emotional detachment and a lack of accountability among the younger generation. She argued that many Gen Zs tend to react impulsively, struggle with responsibility, and appear indifferent because they grew up without consistent care and guidance.

Gen Zs are children brought up in broken relationships and absentee parents. That’s why they come off as emotionless, they burst out easily, they are unaccountable and they don’t care—because nobody cared for them. I know them very well,” she said.

The mother of five did not stop there. She went on to criticize what she sees as a culture of instant gratification fueled by social media. In her view, Gen Zs were “born into the era of front cameras,” meaning they found an already-established digital world where visibility and attention are easily accessible.

Akothee suggested that this exposure has influenced some young people to chase lifestyles they have not worked to build, prioritizing appearance over effort and long-term growth.

They woke up and found front cameras, and now they want to live a life they didn’t build,” she added.

Her remarks have since gone viral, drawing a wave of mixed reactions across social media platforms. Supporters of Akothee argue that she is simply speaking hard truths about modern parenting and the effects of social media on young people. Some agree that the pressures of online validation and the absence of strong family structures have contributed to behavioral challenges among Gen Z.

On the other hand, critics have pushed back strongly, accusing her of unfairly generalizing an entire generation. Many defended Gen Z, pointing out that they are navigating a rapidly changing world marked by economic uncertainty, technological disruption, and shifting social norms. Others argued that the generation is more expressive, aware, and vocal about issues that previous generations often ignored.

The debate highlights a growing generational divide, where older voices often question the values and habits of younger people, while Gen Z continues to redefine identity, success, and communication in the digital age.

Whether seen as harsh criticism or honest reflection, Akothee’s comments have undeniably struck a nerve—once again placing her at the center of a national conversation.
