Kalonzo Musyoka visited comedian Sammy Kioko at Nairobi West Hospital on Thursday evening, April 2, to express solidarity following an incident that left Kioko injured and hospitalized.
In a statement shared via X, Kalonzo described Kioko as “like a son” and prayed for his quick recovery.
“This evening, I visited Sammy Kioko at Nairobi West Hospital to stand with him and his family during this difficult time. Sammy is like a son to me, and I continue to pray for his quick and full recovery,” he said.
Kalonzo also revealed that he spoke with Wavinya Ndeti regarding the incident that led to Kioko’s injury. The governor expressed deep concern and emphasized the importance of ensuring justice is served.
“I also spoke with Governor Wavinya Ndeti, who is deeply concerned by this unfortunate incident and is keen to ensure that the matter is handled fairly and transparently,” Kalonzo added.
The Wiper leader called for restraint from all parties, urging that the matter be handled calmly to allow Kioko to recover and for the truth to emerge without distraction.
“My hope and prayer are that this issue will now proceed with calm, sobriety, and a clear focus on the facts, so that Sammy can heal in peace and the truth can emerge without unnecessary distraction,” he said.
Kioko was reportedly manhandled and arrested during a protest at the County Government headquarters on Tuesday, March 31, while demanding that the Machakos County administration clear the KSh19 million owed to his company, Movata Designs.
Following the incident, Governor Ndeti condemned the events and called for calm, reiterating that the county does not condone violence. She also hosted Kioko’s sister, Maureen Mutua, and their parents to discuss the outstanding payments.
“The director of Movata Designs, Maureen Mwende Mutua, visited my residence today, accompanied by her parents, to discuss her payments. We had an open and productive conversation, and I want to assure the public that Movata Designs will be paid as per the procedures in accordance with the established procedures,” said Governor Ndeti.
The governor’s assurances, coupled with Kalonzo’s visit, aim to restore calm and ensure that Kioko’s wellbeing and the dignity of his family remain the top priority.
