Political commentator Maverick Aoko has ignited debate after making explosive claims about internal wrangles within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In her remarks, Aoko accuses Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga of attempting to consolidate power within the party by positioning close allies and relatives in key leadership roles. She further alleges that there had been earlier plans to influence party elections, claims that have not been independently verified.
The commentary also references veteran politician Oburu Odinga and suggests that internal mechanisms were used to maintain the current party structure, particularly in safeguarding existing county leadership positions. According to Aoko, these developments point to deeper divisions within ODM.
She portrays the party as being split into different factions associated with figures such as Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino, whom she claims are focused on protecting the legacy of party leader Raila Odinga. On the other hand, she alleges that Wanga and her allies are pushing for influence over party structures.
These claims, however, remain part of the broader political discourse and highlight the often complex and competitive nature of party politics in Kenya. As with many such assertions, they are likely to attract both support and criticism, especially from those within ODM who may view the allegations as exaggerated or politically motivated.
As the country edges closer to the next election cycle, internal party dynamics are expected to play a significant role in shaping alliances, strategies, and the overall political landscape.
