Residents of Kericho County were left shocked after a young man from Chepseon, identified as Brian, was forced to prematurely end his 72-hour tree-hugging challenge following the theft of a donation box meant to support his cause.
Brian had launched the endurance challenge in a bid to raise funds to purchase a motorcycle, an effort that quickly attracted attention from locals and social media users impressed by his determination.
The challenge began with high hopes as Brian clung to a tree continuously, aiming to complete the marathon on Tuesday, January 27, at exactly 12 noon. A donation box was placed nearby to collect contributions from passers-by and well-wishers, many of whom gathered to cheer him on during the final stages.
Supporters offered encouragement and financial support, praising Brian’s resilience as he endured long hours without leaving the tree. By Monday evening, he had successfully completed 52 hours, drawing growing crowds and online attention.
However, the challenge took an unfortunate turn at around 8 PM on Monday when an unidentified individual allegedly snatched the donation box, sparking confusion and anger among onlookers and volunteers overseeing the funds.
Witnesses said the incident caused chaos at the scene, with Brian instinctively leaving the tree to chase the suspected thief. His action automatically brought the challenge to an abrupt end, disappointing supporters who had gathered to witness his anticipated finish.
