Ogopa Marafiki,Saudi-Based woman Cries After Friend scams her KSh 200K Meant for Farming Project

Jedidah Wangechi, a Kenyan woman working in Saudi Arabia, has been left heartbroken after her trusted friend allegedly disappeared with KSh 200,000 she had sent for a joint potato farming venture.

According to Wangechi, her friend, David Waweru, convinced her to invest in the project while she was still abroad. Trusting him, she sent money intended for purchasing land, seeds, and fertilizers. Initially, Waweru kept her updated and frequently requested additional funds as the project progressed.

However, communication eventually stopped, raising Wangechi’s suspicions. She sent her brother to inspect the farm, only to discover that Waweru had already harvested the crops and vanished with the proceeds.

Wangechi’s parents, who live in Nyeri, had to travel to Narok in search of answers, adding further financial strain to an already distressing situation. When confronted, Waweru denied any wrongdoing and falsely claimed he was in a relationship with Wangechi in an attempt to deflect blame.

Despite reporting the incident to the authorities, the family’s initial efforts to seek justice were unsuccessful. Wangechi later escalated the matter to senior police officials.

Waweru admitted to receiving the money but claimed the project failed due to poor-quality seeds. He promised to repay the amount, but no reimbursement has been made so far.

Wangechi says the experience has left her emotionally and financially drained. Her story serves as a cautionary tale about the risks of placing blind trust in others, especially in financial matters. She remains hopeful that justice will be served and that she will eventually recover both her money and peace of mind.
